CMP Recertification Tips

Recertification is easier than you think and is not intended to overwhelm you. CIC has provided resources along with the recertification guidelines to assist you with recertification. Here are some tips for completing the process:

Maintain a personal folder for your recertification:

•It can be a physical folder or an electronic folder. It can even be both just to make sure nothing gets lost or destroyed.

•Record activities soon after completion and keep copies of programs and descriptions so you don’t have to rely on your memory when completing the application.

•Write your recertification due date on the outside of the folder.

List continuing education by each individual session you have attended, and include the length of the session (known as clock hours).

Every so often, go into that file and record the CEs as you accrue them. Not only will it make recertifying much easier, but it will help you track which credits you still need before your 5-year cycle is up.

Match your continuing education hours to a domain area in the CMP International Standards (CMP-IS).  The CMP-International Standards is the current body of knowledge required for CMPs and also outlines exam content. Note: It is not necessary have your education in each of the CMP-IS exam content domain areas.

Gather all the required documentation for your continuing education and industry support activities.

Ensure your application is complete before mailing it to CIC.

Refer to the CIC website once in a while to get updates and valuable industry information.

Submit your application by the deadlines!  Mark your calendar and set goals to complete your application.

Don’t wait! Whatever you do, don’t procrastinate! Check your re-certification year by logging into your existing  CIC Account.  (Please contact CIC if you do not remember your login information.)

Update your current contact information with CIC. Log in to your account or inform CIC of address changes.  This way you will be sure to receive important information concerning the CMP program and recertification.
