FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Mary Power President (703) 610-9030 ESCA MAKES CIC RECOGNITION PAVILION POSSIBLE McLean, Virginia – March 5, 2004 – At the dedication of the Convention Industry Council’s (CIC) Hall of Leaders Recognition Pavilion on February 26, 2004, Michael Gehrisch, chairman of the CIC board of directors, was joined in cutting the ribbon by Kim Methe, vice president of the Freeman Companies and president of the Exhibition Service Contractors Association (ESCA). When plans to construct the recognition pavilion formed, ESCA, a member of CIC, pooled the talent of many top exhibition service companies to design and build the pavilion in record time. “CIC is proud to have ESCA’s best develop and design the display that honors the best within our industry,” says Mary Power, president of CIC. The new, interactive display allows visitors to view videos and presentations about both the economic impact of the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry as well as its value as a profession. It gives information about the industry, CIC’s member organizations, and, most importantly, about each Hall of Leaders Inductee. “ESCA is pleased to have been given the opportunity to construct and contribute to the interactive video exhibit for the CIC Hall of Leaders,” says Methe. “Several of the individuals inducted into the Hall of Leaders are general service contractors who have committed their time, talents, and careers to shaping the meetings, conventions and exhibition industry.” The Hall of Leaders program was launched in the early 1980s as a means to honor outstanding leaders and pioneers within the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry. The plan for the recognition pavilion was to truly honor these pioneers in a way that engaged the public as well as promoted the industry. The pavilion, hosted by the Washington, D.C. Convention Center through the efforts of Tom Mobley, General Manager, will now have a proud spot in our industry. The next class of Hall of Leaders honorees will be recognized at CIC’s Hall of Leaders Gala to be held in Denver, CO on July 26, 2004. The Exhibition Services & Contractors Association (ESCA) is the professional organization of firms engaged in the provision of material and/or services for the trade shows, conventions, exhibitions and sales meetings. ESCA is the voice of the exhibition service industry whose purpose is to be a source of facts and answers to special problems, which confront the convention service industry. Additional information on ESCA can be found at www.esca.org. The Convention Industry Council’s 31 member organizations represent more than 98,000 individuals as well as 15,000 firms and properties involved in the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry. Formed in 1949 to provide a forum for member organizations seeking to enhance the industry, the CIC facilitates the exchange of information and develops programs to promote professionalism within the industry and educates the public on its profound economic impact. In addition to the Hall of Leaders, the CIC is also responsible for the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) Program and APEX, the Accepted Practices Exchange. Other programs include Project Attrition, the Prestigious CIC Cup, and the CIC Economic Impact Study.
