CIC ORGANIZES EXCLUSIVE MEETING OF CMPS

McLean, Virginia - March 17, 2004 - The 2004 Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) Conclave will be “Discovering New Frontiers” on July 8-10, 2004 at the Broadmoor Resort in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

This unique gathering organized by the Convention Industry Council (CIC) is open only to those who hold the prestigious CMP designation. To ensure that the CMP examination continues to cover material relevant to today’s meeting professionals, this high-level group of leaders will collectively contribute their industry expertise to review, edit and validate current test questions from the CMP Item Bank. Full participation in the Conclave is worth 12 points towards CMP Recertification.

The CMP Conclave attendees will have many opportunities to network with fellow CMPs while exploring all that the Broadmoor and Colorado Springs has to offer. The Broadmoor, located in beautiful Colorado Springs, offers a variety of amenities including its world-class spa and some of the finest golf and tennis pro shops.

The Conclave Program Committee is co-chaired by CMP Board members Stacy Janecka, CMP and Sally Goldesberry, CMP, CMM. 2004 Conclave educational programming will focus on current CIC programs and initiatives such as APEX and Project Attrition. Other program highlights include: “Latest Trends in Meeting Contracts,” facilitated by Tyra W. Hilliard, Esq., CMP, Professor at George Washington University; and, “Things to Consider in Planning & Managing International Meetings,” facilitated by Tony Carey, CMM, Director, CMA-PR and Robert Guy, CMP, Managing Director, Pacific World Singapore.

CIC is committed to maintaining a state-of-the-art certification program and has partnered with the Chauncey Group International (CGI), a subsidiary of Educational Testing Service, to administer the CMP examination. CGI representatives will be in attendance at the 2004 Conclave to offer attendees guidance and expert instruction on evaluating and constructing examination questions.

Registration for the 2004 CMP Conclave is open exclusively to CMPs. Attendees should register by April 30th to take advantage of the $145 US early-bird rate. For more detailed information, including registration instructions, visit the CIC website.

The CMP program was launched by the CIC in 1985 to enhance the knowledge and performance of meeting professionals. The requirements for certification are based on professional experience and a rigorous academic examination. To date, 9,356 individuals have earned the CMP designation - the only one of its kind to be recognized and endorsed by 31 meetings industry organizations. Beyond ensuring the highest possible industry standards, practices and ethics, the CMP program seeks to maximize the value of products and services provided by Certified Meeting Professionals.

The Convention Industry Council's 31 member organizations represent more than 98,000 individuals as well as 15,000 firms and properties involved in the meetings, convention and exhibitions industry. Formed in 1949 to provide a forum for member organizations seeking to enhance the industry, the CIC facilitates the exchange of information and develops programs to promote professionalism within the industry and educates the public on its profound economic impact.
