McLean, Virginia – July 19, 2004 – The Convention Industry Council is excited to announce October 14, 2004 as the first annual APEX Day. Designed to focus the attention of the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry on the importance of the Accepted Practices Exchange (APEX) initiative, Mickey Schaefer, CAE, chair of the APEX Commission says, "The hope is that APEX Day will raise awareness of the initiative, educate industry members of its purpose and inspire the industry to catch the passion of APEX." In celebration of APEX Day, all industry members are encouraged to plan and participate in special APEX Day events. Recommendations for activities include hosting, sponsoring or attending an APEX City Discussion Group, publishing articles on the APEX initiative in organization or company publications and putting the APEX initiative on meeting agendas. Many more ideas for companies, CIC member organizations, city discussion group leaders, colleges and universities and individuals are available on the APEX Day web page at www.conventionindustry.org. In addition, the CIC web site also includes a running list of activities as they are announced. For instance, industry veterans, Shelley Harris, CMM, CMP and Ellen Wilson, CMP will bring APEX Day to two groups in the industry: independent meeting executives and human resources directors. The Harris/Wilson team will host a special educational forum in the Washington, D.C. area where independent meeting executives and human resources directors come together to learn the benefits of the APEX initiative as it relates to their business. The goal of the two-hour program will be to present the strength of the APEX program as it relates directly to employee professionalism, staff and corporate development, and the communications process for every contractor that touches a meeting or event. For many more ideas visit www.conventionindustry.org/apex/apex_day. APEX (Accepted Practices Exchange), an initiative of the Convention Industry Council, is developing and implementing industry-wide accepted practices which will create and enhance efficiencies throughout the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry. The Convention Industry Council's 31 member organizations represent more than 98,000 individuals and 15,000 firms and properties involved in the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry. Formed in 1949 to provide a forum for member organizations seeking to enhance the industry, the CIC facilitates the exchange of information, develops programs to promote professionalism within the industry, and educates the public on its profound economic impact. In addition to the APEX initiative, the CIC is also responsible for the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) Program. Other programs include Project Attrition, the Hall of Leaders, the Prestigious CIC Cup, and the CIC Economic Impact Study. ###
