CIC SECURES SPONSOR FOR INTERNATIONAL CMP MANUAL

McLean, Virginia – August 9, 2004 – The Convention Industry Council is pleased to announce that Reed Travel Exhibitions has agreed to be one of two primary sponsors of the new Convention Industry Council International Manual, 1st Edition.

The new international manual, which will mirror the original North American CMP Manual, will be written by a team of international authors and edited by Tony Carey, CMM, editor and author of The European Handbook. The plan of this international supplement is to broaden the scope of all professional meeting and event organizers globally. With a strong team of authors from around the globe in place, CIC is positive that the new manual will provide an authentic view of international meeting practices.

Upon publication in early 2005, the International CMP Manual will be added to the required reading list for the CMP examination along side its North American counterpart. With a self study section at the end of each chapter, the international manual will not only be used as a study guide for prospective CMP candidates but will also serve as a useful resource for the 9,356 existing CMP’s to stay current on international meeting practices.

“Our goal with the international CMP program is to acknowledge cultural differences in execution and expectations of meetings so that meetings professionals, where ever they are, can provide the best meeting experience,” says Mary Power, president and CEO of CIC. “Essentially the publication will highlight and explain the major difference between best practices in North America, Europe and the rest of the world.”

The Convention Industry Council’s 31 member organizations represent more than 98,000 individuals as well as 15,000 firms and properties involved in the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry. Formed in 1949 to provide a forum for member organizations seeking to enhance the industry, the CIC facilitates the exchange of information and develops programs to promote professionalism within the industry and educates the public on its profound economic impact. In addition to the CMP Program, CIC is also responsible for the APEX, the Accepted Practices Exchange. Other programs include Project Attrition, the Hall of Leaders the Prestigious CIC Cup, and the CIC Economic Impact Study.
