CIC INITIATIVE OFFERING POSSIBLE ATTRITION SOLUTIONS
Convention Industry Council’s Project Attrition Initiative Releases Phase II Results

McLean, VA – August 13, 2004 – The Convention Industry Council announced today the release of the Project Attrition Phase II survey results. While the primary focus of Phase I was to attain an accurate depiction of the attrition issues facing the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry, Phase II focused on issues theorized to be associated with attrition.

Created as a short-term industry collaboration Project Attrition was designed to help educate members of the meetings, convention and exhibitions industry on the issue while pursuing solutions to minimize the impact of the problem. The initiative was launched in April 2003 and released Phase I results in January 2004.

Project Attrition Phase II, Examination of Event Attendee Behavior and Perceptions When Reserving Hotel Rooms, observed various patterns during analysis which were determined to be relevant to how planners design and market their events. Based on their findings, the task force was able to outline a number of possible solutions to prevent or minimize attrition issues. The results are available on-line at www.conventionindustry.org. Michael Gehrisch, chairman of the Convention Industry Council Board of Directors commented “CIC is proud to be a part of Project Attrition. The results of Phase II research have provided great insight into how to solve this problem. By identifying possible sources of attrition we, as an industry, will be more likely to find successful solutions.”

Project Attrition has been possible because of generous financial support from the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry. Lead contributors include the ASAE Foundation, the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation, the MPI Foundation and the PCMA Education Foundation.

The Convention Industry Council’s 31 member organizations represent more than 98,000 individuals as well as 15,000 firms and properties involved in the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry. Formed in 1949 to provide a forum for member organizations seeking to enhance the industry, the CIC facilitates the exchange of information and develops programs to promote professionalism within the industry and educates the public on its profound economic impact. In addition to Project Attrition, the CIC is also responsible for the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) Program and APEX, the Accepted Practices Exchange.
