President & CEO APEX FOOD & BEVERAGE CHALLENGE WINNERS ANNOUNCED McLean, VA – January 5, 2005 – On December 21, 2004 a group of distinguished professional food and beverage editors and critics met in New York City to judge the Convention Industry Council’s (CIC) first annual APEX Food & Beverage Challenge. CIC invited all industry members to participate in the 2004 Challenge by submitting an original recipe in one of the six categories. Aimed to highlight the incredible talent within the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry, gold, silver and bronze level winners were chosen based on creativity, presentation and the best application of at least one APEX principle (ease/efficiency, time savings, cost savings, high standards and consistency). In addition, all entries were highlighted on the CIC website throughout October 2004. Meeting planners across the industry were encouraged to vote on their favorite entry in each category. The entries that received the most votes were named the winners of the “Planners Choice” Award. “We had a great first year,” said Mary E. Power, president and CEO of CIC. “We received 37 entries from chefs and food and beverage directors from hotels, conference centers, catering companies and convention centers from across the globe. We are thrilled with the turn out.” CIC is happy to announce the winners of the first annual APEX Food & Beverage Challenge. Appetizer:
