Mobley Assumes CIC Chairmanship
McLean, VA – July 5, 2005 – As of June 20, 2005, Thomas
M. “Tom” Mobley, Jr., general manager and chief executive
officer of the Washington Convention Center, is the chair of the Convention
Industry Council’s (CIC) Board of Directors. Mobley, formerly
vice chair of the Board, replaces Michael J. Bandy, partner with Bandy
& Associates, Inc., who has served as chair since January 1, 2005.
Mr. Bandy’s recent departure as president of the Trade Show Exhibitors
Association (TSEA) prompted the change.
“Each of the Convention Industry Council’s 31 member organizations
has a representative on the Board of Directors,” explained Mary
E. Power, CAE, president & CEO of CIC. “Any vacancy in a Board
of Directors position may be filled by the member organization, as it
deems necessary or appropriate. That replacement is for the board position
only, and does not cover executive officer positions, as a Board Member
must have served at least one year as a member prior to the commencement
of an elective term.”
The Convention Industry Council’s 31 member organizations represent
more than 100,000 individuals as well as 15,000 firms and properties
involved in the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry. Formed
in 1949 to provide a forum for member organizations seeking to enhance
the industry, the CIC facilitates the exchange of information and develops
programs to promote professionalism within the industry and educates
the public on its profound economic impact. In addition to the Certified
Meeting Professional (CMP) Program and the Accepted Practices Exchange
(APEX) initiative, CIC’s other programs include the Hall of Leaders,
Project Attrition, the Prestigious CIC Cup, and the CIC Economic Impact
Study. Additional information on the Convention Industry Council can
