CIC Announces International CMPs

McLean, VA – July 13, 2005 – The Convention Industry Council (CIC) is pleased to announce five newly designated Certified Meeting Professionals (CMPs) who passed the April 18, 2005 CMP examination in Frankfurt, Germany. In its twentieth year, the number of individuals who have obtained the CMP credential now totals 10,302 in 26 countries making CMP the most widely recognized meeting industry designation in the world. The new CMPs are: Eugenia Cagnienelli (Italy), Anna Carnielli (Italy), Ute Duregger (Italy), Henricus Plompen (Netherlands), and Annamaria Ruffini (Italy). The newest class of CMPs is also available on the CIC website at www.conventionindustry.org.

Widely regarded as the premier certification program in the industry, the CMP examination tests the candidates’ knowledge of meeting management. In addition to passing this rigorous examination, candidates must also demonstrate responsibility and accountability for successful meetings.

The CMP Program is designed to increase the professionalism of meeting managers in any component or sector of the industry, recognize and raise industry standards, and increase the value of these practitioners to their employers and individuals to whom their services are provided.

The April examination was administered in conjunction with the annual IMEX Trade Show. The next international location for the CMP examination will be held on May 29, 2006 again in Frankfurt, Germany. Applicants must submit completed application to CIC by February 13, 2006 for consideration for the May 2006 exam date. The next North American CMP examinations are scheduled for January 21, 2006 with an application submission deadline of September 12, 2005 and July 8, 2006 with an application submission deadline of March 6, 2006.

Interested meeting professionals may purchase study materials and the CMP Candidate Handbook from the CIC website www.conventionindustry.org.

The Convention Industry Council’s 30 member organizations represent more than 100,000 individuals as well as 15,000 firms and properties involved in the meetings, convention and exhibitions industry. Formed in 1949 to provide a forum for member organizations seeking to enhance the industry, the CIC facilitates the exchange of information and develops programs to promote professionalism within the industry and educates the public on its profound economic impact.
