| FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: CIC WELCOMES NEW MEMBER ORGANIZATIONS Washington DC – April 9, 2008 – The Convention Industry Council is pleased to announce the addition of two new member organizations, the Green Meetings Industry Council (GMIC) and the International Association of Professional Congress Organizers (IAPCO). CIC now represents 33 member organizations within the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry. Brenda Anderson, Chair of the CIC Board and CEO of Society of Incentive & Travel Executives, expressed her pleasure at the two new organizations’ addition to CIC. “We are pleased to expand our membership, especially into the sectors of the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry represented by GMIC and IAPCO,” said Anderson. “International expansion and green events are extremely timely issues for CIC and the industry as a whole. We welcome these organizations and look forward to their participation and dialogue.” Since 2003, GMIC has led the meeting industry in improving meeting management by supporting collaboration and the development and dissemination of resources and opportunities that improve the environmental performance of meetings and events. “The Green Meeting Industry Council is excited to be accepted to the Convention Industry Council table,” said Amy Spatrisano, CMP, President of GMIC and Chair of the APEX Green Events panel. “We look forward to developing green meeting standards through the APEX process with our industry peers at CIC.” Founded in 1968, IAPCO is a worldwide association representing professional congress organizers and meeting planners. Currently, IAPCO represents 100 members in 37 countries and plays a leading role in the promotion and professionalization of congress organization throughout the world. “IAPCO is delighted to join the Convention Industry Council,
and we believe that we can contribute greatly to the role it plays both
in the international and U.S. arena,” said Patrizia Semprebene

The Convention Industry Council’s 33 member organizations represent more than 103,500 individuals and 17,300 firms and properties involved in the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry. CIC facilitates the exchange of information develops programs to promote professionalism within the industry and educates the public on its profound economic impact. CIC’s programs include the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) program, the Accepted Practices Exchange (APEX) initiative, and numerous industry resource projects. ###
