GREEN MEETINGS RELEASES FINAL REPORT

MCLEAN, VA – April 16, 2004 – The Convention Industry Council (CIC) has released the Green Meetings Report, the result of CIC’s Green Meetings Task Force’s work. It is a series of guidelines for simple cost effective ways to plan and host “green” meetings.

The CIC Green Meetings Task Force composed of individuals from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Ocean’s Blue Foundation, the Society of Incentive Travel Executive’s Green Meeting Group, the World Travel Organization, hotels, conventions and visitors bureaus, convention centers and meeting planning organizations. Once in place the task force was charged with creating minimum best practices for event organizers and suppliers to use as a guidelines for implementing policies of sustainability.

“This has been an important project for CIC to lead,” said Mary Power, president of the Convention Industry Council. “Not only is the report an incredibly value toolkit for the industry, but it will raise industry awareness of some simple environmental solutions that are appropriate in today’s world.”

The results of the task force's work are a series of guidelines for event organizers and event suppliers on running environmentally-friendly events. Those guidelines are available on-line at http://www.conventionindustry.org/projects/green_meetings_report.pdf.


The Convention Industry Council’s 31 member organizations represent more than 98,000 individuals as well as 15,000 firms and properties involved in the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry.
