Convention Industry Council Names Project Attrition Leader - David S. Radcliffe

UPDATED April 24, 2003 with Precision Report's phone number and company information.

McLean, Virginia - April 21, 2003 - The Convention Industry Council (CIC) is pleased to announce David S. Radcliffe as the Project Attrition Leader. Mr. Radcliffe most recently led the nonprofit Greater Phoenix Convention & Visitors Bureau as its President and CEO and is recognized throughout the industry as a tourism and convention expert. His peers chose him in 1997 to serve as chairman of the International Association of Convention & Visitors Bureaus (IACVB) representing convention and visitors bureaus across the globe. He also was elected to preside over the Western Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus.

Radcliffe has been selected to lead the CIC’s initiative Project Attrition that will address the short-term issues of attrition and the potential impact of this issue on the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry. The six-month project, which began April 1, 2003, will include a research study and integrated public relations and education campaign. The plans for the project include the creation of:

  • An industry-wide study of attendee behavior: Craig Honick, Director of Research of Precision Reports, LLC will generate a survey to answer questions such as: What are the factors that influence an attendee's decision when making a hotel reservation? Do some factors influence that decision more than others? If so, what can be done to motivate individuals to stay within the hotel contracted block? (For more information about Precision Reports, LLC contact Craig Honick at (415) 457-8788, or craig@precisionreports.com)
  • A tool kit for meeting professionals that provides solutions that have worked for other organizations.
  • An educational program for the leadership of organizations and their attendees.
  • A dedicated section on the CIC web site. The section will include links to related organizations, success stories and strategies to avoid attrition.

The CIC is delighted to have Radcliffe as the Project Attrition Leader and to move the project forward.

The Convention Industry Council’s 30 member organizations represent more than 98,000 individuals, as well as 15,000 firms and properties involved in the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry.
