I. APEX VOLUNTEERS OF THE MONTH: Susan L. Schwartz, CEM & Sandy Biback, CMP, CMM

APEX depends on hundreds of industry volunteers who generously provide their time, knowledge and experience to the initiative. Volunteers of particular note in recent weeks are Susan L. Schwartz, CEM & Sandy Biback, CMP, CMM. Susan and Sandy are co-chairs of the APEX Resumes & Work Orders Panel.

Susan is President of ConvExx and Executive Director of the Exposition Services & Contractors Association (ESCA) in Henderson, Nevada, and Sandy is the Principal/CEO of Imagination+Meeting Planners Inc. in Toronto, Ontario. Together with their incredibly dedicated and insightful panel members, they worked for eight months to develop a series of revolutionary recommendations to improve the efficiency and professionalism of the meeting, convention and exhibition industry.

This panel's report was submitted for industry review on October 1, 2002. The Preliminary Report of the APEX Resumes & Work Orders Panel is available online at http://www.conventionindustry.org/apex/Panels/RWO_Prelim_Report.htm.

Do you know of someone who has gone above and beyond the call of duty for APEX? To nominate a "Volunteer of the Month," send an email with the person's name and an explanation of why you think he or she should be recognized.

II. CITY DISCUSSION GROUPS

  • Orlando, FL - October 29, 2002
  • Portland, OR - November 4, 2002

IV. HELP NEEDED - Your Opportunity to Contribute

The third panel of the APEX (Accepted Practices Exchange) initiative has submitted a report for industry review. The Preliminary Report of the APEX Resumes & Work Orders Panel is available online at http://www.conventionindustry.org/apex/Panels/RWO_Prelim_Report.htm.

This report outlines the work to-date of the panel and describes the process by which members of the meeting, convention and exhibition industry can provide input on the panels' preliminary recommendations for accepted practices in this topic area. Comments and suggestions can be made via online forms accessible through the preliminary reports.

In order to develop accepted practices, members of all facets of the industry are asked to review the preliminary findings and provide input at this mid-point in the panel's planned work. Comments should be constructive to the process of developing feedback. Therefore, any criticism of a panel recommendation should be accompanied by a rationale and suggested solution.
