Please forward this newsletter to others involved in the meetings, conventions, & exhibitions industry. The monthly APEX E-News is an effort to provide timely information and updates on the APEX (Accepted Practices Exchange) initiative to all volunteers, funders and general industry members. APEX is an industry-wide initiative that is developing the best accepted practices for the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry with the goal of streamlining the way the industry does business. ================================ I. CITY DISCUSSION GROUPS - UPCOMING MEETINGS City Discussion Groups (CDG) are a vital part of the development of accepted industry practices, providing an open forum through which industry members on the local level can participate and be heard. II. IASB DONATES SILENT AUCTION PROCEEDS TO SUPPORT APEX The International Association of Speakers Bureaus (IASB) recently presented a check for $4025 to the Convention Industry Council in support of APEX. IASB held a silent auction during its convention where speakers were auctioned. The Silent Auction Committee voted to donate 10% of the auction proceeds to APEX in the name of those speakers that donated speeches for the auction. Participating in the auction were: Mike McKinley, CSP, CPAE; Charles Petty, ThD, CSP, CPAE; Mark Sanborn, CSP, SPAE; Emory Austin, CSP, CPAE; John Cassis; Mary LoVerde; C.W. Metcalf; Tim Gard, CSP; Jeff Salz; and, Mimi Donaldson. James D. Montoya, CAE, executive vice president of IASB said in a letter, “The International Association of Speakers Bureaus is proud to be a member of CIC. IASB is a very small association with limited resources, in comparison to most of the other members. However, the association is committed to do its best to be supportive of the mission of CIC.” IASB’s commitment demonstrates the importance of all stakeholders being involved in the development of the accepted practices. There are many opportunities for you to be involved and to make an impact:
