Please forward this newsletter to others involved in the meetings, conventions, & exhibitions industry. The monthly APEX E-News is an effort to provide timely information and updates on the APEX (Accepted Practices Exchange) initiative to all volunteers, funders and general industry members. APEX is an industry-wide initiative that is developing the best accepted practices for the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry with the goal of streamlining the way the industry does business. ================================ I. FUNDRAISING UPDATE – FREEMAN COMPANIES LEADS 2003 CONTRIBUTORS The Freeman Companies and Passkey International recently made significant contributions to support the Convention Industry Council’s APEX initiative. Freeman committed to a $50,000 gift and Passkey committed to a $25,000 donation to the campaign. With these contributions, the campaign total has climbed to $1,079,200. Mickey Schaefer, CAE, APEX chair and vice president of the American Academy of Family Physicians, said, “I am thrilled that Freeman has demonstrated its commitment to the APEX Initiative on such a large level. They truly are making an investment in the industry and the entire APEX Commission is most grateful for their support.” Joe Popolo, president and CEO, Freeman Decorating Company, expressed his commitment to the campaign and remarked, “Freeman is proud to support APEX. By supporting accepted practices, we are working to strengthen the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry.” Paul Rantilla, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Passkey International, and the new chair of the technology group for the APEX Campaign, also announced at the committee meeting that Passkey would make a substantial commitment to the campaign. “With the even greater challenges facing the meetings industry, such as rising attrition risks, lack of channel price integrity, and the book-around issue, APEX’s mission is more critical than ever,” explained Rantilla. “We believe that Passkey’s contribution will fuel important solutions and best practices for the industry in a time when they are needed the most.” Schaefer commented, “The APEX campaign is most appreciative of Passkey’s significant contribution, and more importantly their input in developing accepted practices. Their commitment to providing housing solutions to the industry runs parallel to the APEX initiative.” A final announcement from the APEX Campaign committee is the addition of Burt Cabanas, chairman and CEO of Benchmark Hospitality Inc., to the APEX Campaign Leadership Committee. Mr. Cabanas will be overseeing the Conference Centers group for the campaign and joins a committee including:
