I. APEX DAY IS COMING! START PLANNING FOR OCTOBER 14TH!

APEX Day is on October 14, 2004! Now is the time to make sure you are a part of this industry-wide celebration.

This day will focus the attention of the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry on its efforts to develop the best practices for the industry. Individuals, organizations, and corporations can celebrate in many different ways. For instance, you can:

  • Put APEX on your staff meeting agenda.
  • Schedule a webinar to educate customers about APEX.
  • Publish an article on APEX in your company or organization newsletter.
  • Promote APEX on your website by posting the APEX supporter logo, adding links to the APEX Industry Glossary and Post-Event Report and providing general APEX information.
  • Support a local city discussion group by sending employees to participate or by providing services as a sponsor.
  • Write a letter to your business associates explaining your commitment to APEX.

Make sure to register your activity with CIC so that you are added to the national listing of all APEX Day events. Email Crystal Coté at ccote@conventionindustry.org with your APEX Day plan!

II. APEX DONOR SPOTLIGHT – PASSKEY

Founded in 1996, Passkey’s mission is to be the open industry standard with integrated capabilities to various hospitality systems. As a leader in meetings and conventions industry technology, Passkey has automated the group housing process in order to decrease manual processes and increase efficiency and revenue.

As a processor of group reservations, Passkey offers a live centralized database available throughout the housing process, accessible 24 hours a day 7 days a week. With 7,250 active users and as many as 150 major meeting and convention cities hosting Passkey-enabled events, Passkey has proven to be an integral player in the meetings and conventions industry.

Passkey is a Gold Donor to The Campaign for the Accepted Practices Exchange. For more information, visit www.passkey.com.

III. HELP NEEDED – TWO OPPORTUNITIES TO CONTRIBUTE

In addition to participating in APEX Day activities, there are currently two opportunities for you to contribute to APEX!

First, in 50-500 words, answer the question of how you are using accepted practices in your professional life. CIC is looking for testimonials from industry members about how accepted practices and APEX tools are in use today. For instance, have you made the APEX Post-Event Report a standard operating practice in your office? Are you using the APEX Industry Glossary to train new employees? Have you shown your completed Post-Event Reports to your boss at performance review time?

Send your ideas to ccote@conventionindustry.org and you may be featured in future editions of the E-News, on the CIC website, and in other industry media.

Secondly, the Preliminary Report of the APEX Meeting & Site Profiles Panel and the Preliminary Report of the APEX Requests for Proposals (RFPs) Panel are available online. Make sure that your needs are captured! Provide input on these recommendations by the November 11, 2004 deadline!
