I. APEX DAY IS BACK! START PLANNING FOR OCTOBER 14TH!

The 2nd Annual APEX Day will be on October 14, 2005! Now is the time to make sure you are a part of this celebration.

APEX Day 2004 was a huge success as professionals from all segments of the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry participated in the many unique events and activities. In 2005, CIC challenges YOU to make APEX Day bigger and better than ever!

Individuals, organizations and corporations can celebrate in many different ways. For instance, you can:

  • Put APEX on your staff meeting agenda...Talk about how to bring accepted practices into your operations.
  • Schedule a webinar to educate your customers about APEX.
  • Publish an article on APEX in your company or organization newsletter.
  • Promote APEX on your website by posting the APEX supporter logo and adding links to APEX tools.
  • Support a local city discussion group by sending employees to participate or by providing services as a sponsor.
  • Write a letter to your business associates explaining your commitment to APEX.

Make sure to register your activity with CIC so that you are added to the national registry of all 2005 APEX Day events. Email Crystal Coté at ccote@conventionindustry.org with your APEX Day plan!

IV. CIC UPDATE

CIC Expands!
CIC unanimously approved the National Business Travel Association (NBTA) as its newest member organization at its board of directors meeting on March 10, 2005. With the addition of NBTA, CIC’s 31 member organizations represent more than 100,000 individuals as well as 15,000 firms and properties involved in the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry.

CIC Recognizes CEIR White Paper
CIC offered its congratulations to the Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR) in a public announcement on March 28, 2005 in response to CEIR’s release of its White Paper: Space Available…The Rest of the Story a commentary and response to the Brookings Institution Research Brief published earlier this year.

CIC Release Statement in Response to Labor Disputes
CIC released a statement on April 1, 2005 in response to recent labor disputes between hotels and their union employees in various cities throughout the United States. Although CIC understand that unions and hotels have the right to advise the public, including customers, of any disputes, it strongly believes that any such disputes must be resolved through proper negotiations and fair tactics. CIC does not support tactics that include any misrepresentation or attempt to force industry professionals to boycott hotels at which these disputes may arise. CIC’s full statement can be found online at www.conventionindustry.org. In addition CIC urges all industry professionals to review the list of recommendations entitled What to Do Should You be Contacted Regarding Labor Disputes found on the CIC website directly at http://www.conventionindustry.org/resources/industry_resources.htm
