I. WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?
This new feature of the APEX E-News will focus on a different sector
of the industry each month and will address important benefits that
APEX accepted practices will bring to that sector’s members. This
month the focus is on Event Planners. Next month we’ll look at
convention and visitors bureaus.
For event planners, APEX accepted practices will:
- Lessen the margin for error which equals more $$ in the pocket.
- Maximize the use and life of technology investments.
- Encourage best practices and increase professionalism.
- Ensure consistency from program to program and city to city.
- Lead to accurate event histories.
What’s In It For Planners’, Companies & Organizations?
- Standardization within the company or organization, particularly if
the planning function is decentralized
- Resource savings (especially in planner time)
- Quicker, more consistent personnel training
- Standardization of the Post-Event Report (PER) helps in defining and
tracking ROI
- Benefits attendees by having accurate information on each individual
with a focus on their reason for attending (rather than the paperwork).
What’s In It For Planners Themselves?
- Demonstration of professionalism & knowledge which can lead to
better potential for raises, promotions, and credibility within the
company while demonstrating strategic value, not just tactical application.
- It is easier to “learn the ropes” within the industry.
- Allows one to spend time on other things like creativity and marketing,
which is particularly valuable for an independent planner.
- Consistent information allows for better site selection decision-making
by comparing apples to apples, especially in the site profile and RFP
areas.
- Time is spent with sales people who fit with your business needs,
which is a better use of time.
How are accepted practices benefiting you? Let us know and we may feature
you in a future edition of the APEX E-News. Send your ideas to jjones@conventionindustry.org.
II. APEX DAY IS BACK! START PLANNING FOR
OCTOBER 14TH!
The 2nd Annual APEX Day will be on October 14, 2005! Now is the time
to make sure you are a part of this celebration.
APEX Day 2004 was a huge success as professionals from all segments
of the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry participated in
the many unique events and activities. In 2005, CIC challenges YOU to
make APEX Day bigger and better than ever!
Individuals, organizations and corporations can celebrate in many different
ways. For instance, you can:
- Put APEX on your staff meeting agenda...Talk about how to bring accepted
practices into your operations.
- Schedule a webinar to educate your customers about APEX.
- Publish an article on APEX in your company or organization newsletter.
- Promote APEX on your website by posting the APEX supporter logo and
adding links to APEX tools.
- Support a local city discussion group by sending employees to participate
or by providing services as a sponsor.
- Write a letter to your business associates explaining your commitment
to APEX.
-See www.conventionindustry.org/apex/apex_day.htm
for more ideas.
Make sure to register your activity with CIC so that you are added
