Emeritus CMPs

Gerri Mares, CMP
San Diego, CA

My experience in the hospitality industry spans a period of at least 28 years and for the past 22 years as a freelance meeting coordinator, I have been directly involved in planning and operation of meetings.

During this period I have been associated with individuals with varied experience and talents including many certified meeting professionals. It is obvious that designated CMPs have consistently exhibited a professional work ethic and competence that makes me proud to be included among this select group.

Stringent requirements necessary to attain CMP designation establishes a standard that reflects consistent performance evident throughout the industry. CMPs stand out in every group and they are the ones that inevitably make things run smooth even when confronted with difficult circumstances. This ability goes a long way toward making meetings a pleasant experience for the participants and has contributed to the high regard in which CMPs are held.

Most exciting, however, is the special Emeritus Status afforded to senior CMPs such as myself. This recognizes a contribution and long-standing participation in the CMP program and provides a sense of worth to past efforts. As an Emeritus CMP, I believe that I can continue to perform within the high standards of our industry and serve as a goal that others can achieve through their participation in the program.

It is pleasing to note that our industry has not created any meaningless age ceilings and CMPs can continue to participate for as long as they are able. In behalf of myself and others that have matured to senior status, I am extremely grateful for this opportunity.
