Emeritus CMPs

Carolyn K. Miner, CMP
Winter Haven, FL

When I considered initially applying for my CMP, I had been in the industry for many years. The study program I attended gave me a new perspective on my role. Most others in our class were newer. I learned alternate methods to approach my job.

As an Independent Planner, I have been called upon to perform a broad spectrum of assignments. The course and subsequent continuing training were a tremendous help in proving my worth to my clients. Not every client was aware of the CMP designation and it game me a chance to explain its meaning and in many cases gave me the edge in my presentations. Financially it has proven a direct benefit.

I have enjoyed many volunteer roles in my career including President of the New England Chapter of MPI. I think the CMP after my names told those with whom I interacted that I had fulfilled the professional requirements that are recognized as a high industry standard of professionalism. I also sat on the former Ethics Committee of MPI and was asked to review the challenges of our industry. All members of that committee were CMPs.

I retired last year. I still get calls from colleagues who want to chat about their challenges. I often hear from those who say: “I want to be a Meeting Planner.” I am proud to be of assistance and be a mentor to newer associates. I always encourage them to apply for their CMP when they can qualify as it holds such value to me.

I have always been proud to have CMP after my name and would enjoy an Emeritus Status. I do attend industry functions on occasion and do meet with other former colleagues. I reviewed the list of those who have Emeritus status and found the names of many valued friends and would be honored to be included.
