| Emeritus CMPs George Perkins, II, CMP It is time for me to recertify my CMP. It is also my time to seek Emeritus status. I have just passed my 81st birthday. Meetings have been a large part of my life. In 1953 I was chairman of the 1st television exposition that was held in the New England area. Looking back I wish I could have been a member of the CIC Certified Meeting Professional Organization. It did not exist back then. Had I been a member I would have known where to go for answers to my list of questions. But as it was back then, I had to brave it through. I was just 27 years old and I had to learn fast. From that agonizing week, I have handled a large number of meetings of various kinds and sizes.
About eleven years ago when I was a young 69 years old I learned that I needed to be a CMP. When I joined, I found myself surrounded by wonderful people, all of whom are meeting professionals. I have loved every moment. I have talked to some of the most experienced and knowledgeable meeting management people whom I would never have met except for CMP. What a loss that would have been for me. I have been surprised by so many CMP members willing to share their abilities and successes and a few hard to swallow failures just to bring that information to other members.
Being a CMP has been a great pleasure and very valuable to me. But it is time to start slowing down a bit. To become a CMP with Emeritus status would become the frosting on my life of meetings. I hope it can take place.
Please take me into consideration, and thank you either way.
