Emeritus CMPs

Sally Shank, CMP
Dallas, TX

Nine years ago I was forced to relocate from one state to another because of a family emergency. I immediately began job hunting in a major metropolitan area and was pleasantly surprised when doors began to open. I realized that my CMP Designation was a major contributor to my job hunting success. In today’s economy, knowing the job market and how to find opportunities is more important than ever for meeting planners.

The CMP Designation remains the vibrant, stable and most visible means of recognizing professional excellence. It became clear to me that I stood out in a sea of other in the same or similar profession because of those three letters following my name. In the profession, the CMP Designation has superior recognition and proves a level of personal satisfaction at having achieved a quantifiable level of knowledge and experience. I feel that if a prospective employer recognizes and is familiar with the CMP Designation, it’s a good sign that the workplace will be a favorable one.

The value of the CMP Designation has increased over the past ten years due to the growth of the CMP population, and that factor increases the credibility of the Designation. Being a CMP gives me immediate respect from those I deal with, and maintaining the designation emphasizes to my business associates the importance I place of professional excellence. I believe in the profession in which I work and take pride in it.

If I am to continue to my employer, I feel it is important to continue my competency in the most current practices, methods & trends in the industry.

The CMP Designation is a win-win for me as an employee and my employer because it is an indicator that they are determined to develop dedicated and passionate employees.

On the wall of my office, among other certificates, diplomas, etc., is my Convention Industry Council CMP Certification Certificate. I point to it with pride to visitors and declare, “this is the one I’m most proud of.” I will be forever grateful to my former employer for giving me the opportunity to achieve this most important professional goal.
