APEX INITIATIVE

The Accepted Practices Exchange (APEX) is an initiative of the Convention Industry Council (CIC) that brings together all stakeholders in the development and implementation of accepted practices to create and enhance efficiencies throughout the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry. The result will be increased professionalism and credibility for the industry. For more information on APEX, go to our sister site www.apexsolution.org

Virtual Discussion Site on Green Meeting Standards Open for Comment

The first three topic areas of the APEX/ASTM Green Meeting and Events Standard are available for review and comment on a new blog site http://wp.apexsolution.org .  Those drafts are the work of the Destinations, Meeting Venue and Transportation Committees. When the new standard is complete, there will be nine categories in total. Other categories expected to be ready for public comment by early June include: Accommodations, AV, Communication, Food and Beverage, Exhibits and Onsite Office. Anyone interested in green meeting practices are invited to participate in this very important effort to develop best practices for green meetings and events!

MEETINGS INDUSTRY ISSUES

H1N1 Virus: The CDC and World Health Organizations are not recommending travel restrictions related to the outbreak of the Influenza A(H1N1) virus. Limiting travel and imposing travel restrictions would have very little effect on stopping the virus from spreading, but would be highly disruptive to the global community. For more information go to www.cdc.gov or www.who.int/en/. Click here

to view CIC's press release.

CIC member organization American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) incorporated association meetings into their legislative efforts during its annual member fly-in on April 1--American Associations Day. ASAE members met with their Members of Congress to deliver the message about the value of association meetings

Meetings Industry Under Attack

It is no secret that the meetings industry has come under attack in the media and Congress.  CIC and its member organizations have been working with an industry coalition to get the message out that meetings are good for business and jobs.

Here’s What You Can Do

The US Travel Association has developed a website with factual information and resources for you to help. Go to www.Meetingsmeanbusiness.com.

Sign the petition to show your support for the communities, businesses and millions of employees who rely on meetings, events and performance incentive travel. This petition will be delivered to the White House, Congress and to Fortune 200 business leaders.

Keep America Meeting.org

The CIC Chair has appointed a Task Force as a clearing house and feedback loop for members relative to these issues. Email us your thoughts.
